As you go about planet hopping in Outer Wilds’ solar system, you’ll find that your jetpack is an invaluable piece of equipment. Problem is, as a real-life equivalent would require, it needs a source of fuel to propel you around the planets and their atmosphere. Here’s how to refuel your jetpack in Outer Wilds.
Refueling Your Jetpack in Outer Wilds
There are actually two different ways to refuel your jetpack, depending on whereabouts you find yourself within the solar system when it starts running out of gas. The first and most convenient place to refuel is on your ship itself. Head inside it and look in the little compartment just to the right of the cockpit. Here, you’ll find the place you’ll pick up and return your space suit.
Just to the left of your suit, you’ll also find a little medkit and a fuel tank. When looking at this, you’ll receive the prompt to either press X on an Xbox One controller, or E on keyboard in order to refuel your jetpack. At the same time, you’ll also heal any damage you’ve taken when exploring the various planets of Outer Wilds on your quest to uncover the mystery of the Nomiads.
Of course, there are going to be times when you find yourself exploring a planet far from your ship, or perhaps it’s exploded… in which case, you really are going to be in a bit of a pickle. At this point, you’ll need to hope for the best that you come across one of these jetpack fuel tanks that you can see in the image down below.
That silver cylinder with the flammable sticker on it, that’s a jetpack fuel tank. Simply walk on over to this and press X or E once again and it’ll refuel your jetpack.
From our experience in the game, most of the other Outer Wilds explorers that can be found with your Signal Repeater tend to have one of these lying around nearby, so if one of them have set up camp on the planet you’re on, make a beeline for them and you should be able to get yourself refueled and ready to go.
What Happens If You Run Out of Jetpack Fuel?
If you find yourself completely out of fuel for your jetpack, you won’t be completely stranded. Your jetpack will begin using your oxygen supply to propel you around, but obviously, that’s not exactly ideal either. It’ll drain your O2 levels incredibly quickly and if you’re not close to your ship or an alternative oxygen supply, you’ll soon find yourself dead and starting the loop all over.
That’s about everything you need to know about how to refuel your jetpack in Outer Wilds. For more tips, tricks, and guides, be sure to search for Twinfinite. Alternatively, check out some of our other guides for the game down below, because we’re good like that.
