What Nintendo Direct Is
As most Nintendo fans and Switch owners might know by now, the company loves hosting Directs once every couple of months. These are pre-recorded videos with pretty good production quality, and they’re used to showcase the upcoming games that Nintendo has for their consoles, namely the Switch and the 3DS. This is what’s called a Nintendo Direct.
The Nintendo Direct is often short, clocking in at around 12 to 15 minutes for each one, and they’re basically quickfire announcements of new games for Nintendo consoles. Occasionally, we’ll also get new trailers for games that have already been announced previously, as well as new DLC announcements for games that are already released. Nintendo also occasionally does a Nindies showcase, which is basically the indie version of a Nintendo Direct. These are used to show off new indie games that are coming to the Switch, or even ports of indie games that have already been released elsewhere.
At the time of writing, the next Nintendo Direct has already been announced, and it’s set to take place at 2 p.m Pacific time on March 8. This is a proper Direct that will likely feature new game announcements, and provide a roadmap for what the company is planning for the rest of 2018.
