How to Use Your Ranged Weapon (Wand, Gun, Bow) in Ni No Kuni 2

The combat in Ni No Kuni 2 moves at a frantic pace, and though there are defensive maneuvers you’ll need to master, the emphasis of gameplay is firmly on the offensive. Except when blocking or when you’re dashing between Higgledies, the general rule of thumb is that you should constantly be attacking in Ni No Kuni 2. That means firing off your ranged weapon whenever you find yourself at a distance from enemies, so you’ll need to get comfortable with how to use your ranged weapon quickly.

To do so, simply press R1. Whether the character you’re controlling uses a wand, gun, or bow, this will fire their ranged weapon. For a more powerful attack, hold down R1 to charge a shot that will release multiple projectiles, either targeting several enemies or hitting one with a powerful volley.

Not only will you be using both types of weapons in standard attacks, but there are also special attacks for both too. When holding R2 for your special ability, at least one of those attacks will normally be a ranged one, so it’s worth taking note of which button this is for a given character. Ranged special attacks can come in very useful indeed.
