This article is over 5 years old and may contain outdated information

While Modern Warfare brings back the single-player campaign to the Call of Duty series, the classic multiplayer mode remains. With all manner of unlocks and skins to earn, it can all be a bit overwhelming. So that you can take advantage of them, here’s everything you need to know about how to get and use Blueprints in Modern Warfare.

Blueprint are preset loadouts with a special name that you can unlock by playing Modern Warfare. For example, the easiest to unlock is the Piercer submachine gun.

It’s a variant of the MP7 weapon, which usually unlocks at level 54, but the Piecer blueprint allows you to use it earlier.

How to Get & Use Blueprints in Modern Warfare

To get Blueprints, you need to complete Multiplayer Challenges. To see what they are, head to the Barracks tab and select Multiplayer Challenges. Then, press R1/RB to cycle to the Missions tab, where you’ll see various challenges.

Most of them are pretty complex though, with multiple steps and requirements such as getting 30 kills with each weapon type, or capturing 30 flags in Domination.

The easiest one, which is called Boot Camp and has seven steps, took me until about level 10-12 to unlock, giving me the Piercer Blueprint.

Then, to actually use them, head to the Weapons tab in Modern Warfare multiplayer and select Edit Loadouts. Then, take a look around the weapon type of the blueprint you just unlocked and look for a little tile that’s appeared next to the weapon.

It’ll have a little number in it, which corresponds to the number of Blueprints you’ve unlocked that feature that weapon. Select that little tile with the thumbstick and press X/A.

It’ll expand to say Armory and will come up with a page all about the Blueprint you unlocked. Just press X/A to confirm that you want to use it, and it’ll add it to the Custom Loadout that you’re creating.

You’ll then be able to jump into matches and play with it, even if it’s technically a weapon that you’ve not reached the level to unlock.

Time needed: 1 minute

In short, here’s how to get and use Blueprints in Modern Warfare:

  1. Complete Multiplayer Challenge Missions to unlock them.

  2. Head to the Weapons section and start to create a custom loadout.

  3. Here, you’ll see the Blueprints in a little tab next to the weapons that’s featured in it. Just select it to add it to the loadout.
