Kingdom Hearts 3 finally returns to the PS4 and Xbox One, allowing hungry fans to reunite with Sora and the gang. Making your way through the game’s many worlds involves lots of action-packed sequences where you’ll have to put your Keyblade to good use; but it’s not the only trick you have up your sleeve. Here’s how to use Link Summons in Kingdom Hearts 3.

Link Summons, or D-Links, work similar to how they did in previous games. They allow you to call upon the power of characters from other worlds and make use of it for a short period of time in the world that you’re currently exploring and fighting in.

In order to use Link Summons in Kingdom Hearts 3, you’ll first have to obtain the corresponding item that allows you to summon the character in question. These are found at specific points during the game and are tied to specific characters.

For example, beating Verum Rex in Toy Box rewards the Pixel Heartbinder, which allows you to summon Wreck-It Ralph. Successfully getting through Olympus gets you the Dream Heartbinder item that lets you invite Dream Eaters to your brawls.

Once you’ve obtained the proper items, you’ll need to use the D-pad to go down to the Link option during battles, and then select the summon that you think best fits the situation.

If it’s efficiency that you crave, you also have the alternative option of equipping a Link Summon on your shortcut in the main menu.

Keep in mind that you’ll need a full MP bar in order to use summons. Furthermore, using them also replenishes Sora’s health, so there’s another aspect to the mechanic aside from the different attacks that each character brings to the table.
