One of the most anticipated titles of 2019 for PC players out there is the upcoming release of a 14-year-old MMORPG in the form of World of Warcraft Classic. The game offers a faithful recreation of the original World of Warcraft, with the same dated look and feel that made the game oh so popular back in 2006. Here’s how to get into the World of Warcraft Classic beta.
How to Get World of Warcraft (WoW) Classic Beta
First things first, it’s worth noting that the World of Warcraft Classic beta is already underway. It kicked off on May 15, and since, players have been busy exploring the original realm just the way it was before the many expansion packs released. If you’re looking to get into the action, however, you’ll need to ensure you’ve opted-in to participating in the beta.
To do this, you’ll first need to log in to your Battle.Net account, or if you’ve not yet got one, sign up to one. Upon doing this, you’ll need to navigate over to this Beta Profile Settings page. Here, you’ll see the likes of Overwatch, Diablo, Warcraft, and World of Warcraft Classic listed, as shown in the image below.
What you want to do here is ensure that you’ve got the World of Warcraft Classic and Warcraft boxes checked and then click the ‘Update Preferences’ box. This will inform Blizzard that you’re interested in taking part in the World of Warcraft Classic beta. However, that doesn’t guarantee that you’re going to get an invite.
Over on a blog post, Blizzard stated that “To fill our pool of beta and stress test participants, we’ll be choosing dedicated players who meet select criteria from both the WoW Classic beta opt-in and the standard Warcraft beta opt-in. Participants will also need to have an active subscription or active game time on their Battle.net Account.”
Further, they clarified that simply opting-into these betas even if you have a subscription or active game time does not guarantee you an invite. “While opting-in to the beta is the primary way to make sure you’re in the running to join the test it doesn’t guarantee an invitation to the closed beta test.
We may also consider additional factors such as how long a player has been subscribed to the game so that we have the right mix of players to ensure great feedback toward making WoW Classic the very best experience for the community.”
World of Warcraft Classic Stress Test Dates
If you’ve not yet received an invitation, all hope is not lost. Blizzard did announce a number of Stress Tests that they’ll be using in order to “put our servers and technology through their paces in a series of stress tests.” These will “extend the opportunity to even more players. Level caps will also be in place to ensure we’re emphasizing the “stress” in “stress test.”
You can check out the stress test dates down below, though it’s worth noting Blizzard has stated these dates are subject to change.
- Stress Test 1: Wed May 22–Thurs May 23
- Stress Test 2: Wed Jun 19– Thurs Jun 20
- Stress Test 3: Thurs Jul 18– Fri July 19
