FIFA 20: How to Score Downward Headers

This article is over 5 years old and may contain outdated information

Downward headers are a valuable attacking option to have in your arsenal in FIFA 20. Because the keeper has to get down low, and because there’s a chance it’ll bounce before reaching the goal, it makes it far more likely you can score a header, or just find a gap in the crowded box. Here’s how to score downward headers in FIFA 20.

How to Score Downward Headers in FIFA 20 (PS4, Xbox One, Switch)

To score downward headers in FIFA 20, you’ll first need to make sure that you’re crossing the ball into the box in the air. This can either be done from a free kick, crossing in the ball from the wing, or just a lob or lofted through ball from elsewhere on the pitch.

As the ball is about to reach the player in the box, you’ll then want to press shoot, as well as the two bumpers or shoulder buttons on your console. We’ve included how to do this on all platforms below:

PlatformDownwards Header Input
PS4Circle + L1 + R1
Xbox OneB + LB + RB
Nintendo SwitchA + L + R

If you press these buttons at the right time and hold them down to get a good bit of power behind it, and then use the left analog stick to direct where you want the downward header to go, your player should send the ball toward the ground in that direction.

Keep in mind that timing is key in all of this. You want to make sure you’re pressing the button inputs just before you head the ball to ensure it’s an accurate chance on goal.

You’re not guaranteed to score every time from downwards headers, but it’s a helpful option to have at your disposal when crossing the ball in, especially if you’re struggling to keep your headers from going over the bar.

That’s everything you need to know on FIFA 20’s downward headers. For more tips, tricks, and guides, be sure to check out our ever-expanding guide wiki, or search for Twinfinite. We have also listed some other helpful guides down below.
