Here’s what you need to know on how to get wood in Fallout 76 for all of your crafting and building needs. Don’t be rude, you!

Fallout 76 is a bit of a change of pace for Bethesda’s post-apocalyptic series. Rather than opting for a strictly single-player experience, this amble into the wasteland of West Virginia sees players sharing the world. You can go out on quests together, or just kill each other and steal all of their junk items.

Wood is an important crafting resource in Fallout 76, and you’ll need to know how to get it to craft pretty much anything for your CAMP.

Well, that’s where we come in to help fill the gaps. Here’s everything you need to know to get wood in Fallout 76.

Where to Find it & How to Scrap Items for it

Wood, like most other crafting materials in Fallout 76 can be gotten by simply picking up junk items as you’re going around the world. Think logically about what junk items would contain wood, and you’ll like be able to get it when you scrap it (which we’ll get to in a moment). Things like pencils, ladles and wood blocks can all net you the stuff, so be sure to pick them up whenever you can.

Once you’ve got these, it’s simply a case of heading to any workbench you can find in the world and pressing X on Xbox One or Square on PS4 to use the Scrap Junk Items option. Then, press Y or Triangle to scrap all of your junk items. In doing so, Fallout 76 will break down all of your junk items in your inventory, and turn it into their basic resources.

This way, you’ll be able to get wood scraps, which can then be used for crafting at your CAMP.

There’s an easier way to get wood in Fallout 76, however, and it involves a bit more exploring out in the wilderness. You’re looking for any fallen trees or logs that are lying around on the floor. We’ve included a screenshot of some we came across ourselves to help you identify what you’re looking for below.

Once you’ve found one of these, simply walk over to it and press X on PS4 or A on Xbox One to harvest it. Each one can give you anywhere between two and eight Wood Scraps from our experience. However, there’s a way to get even more wood easily from sources. We’ve detailed this down below, too.

How to Get More Wood Fast in Fallout 76

Perks have always been a staple of the Fallout experience, and it’s no different when it comes to Fallout 76 either. Within the Luck category of SPECIAL, you’ll be able to come across a Perk Card called Woodchucker. By selecting this, you’ll collect twice as much of the crafting resource when harvesting it from logs or fallen trees.

As such, if you think you’re going to be spending a lot of time at your CAMP, or just building resources, you’ll want to make sure you get the Woodchucker perk fairly quickly.

Even outside of the Woodchucker perk and just finding logs out in the wild, you’ll also want to seek out the different Logging Camps that are littered across the map. These are an incredibly rich source of this resource in Fallout 76, so be sure to visit these and start harvesting the wood piles found within.
