How to Become Wanted in Fallout 76

Since Fallout 76 is the first multiplayer Fallout experience, it should come as no surprise that some survivors may have a desire to fight each other instead of teaming up against the horrors of the wasteland. In fact, sometimes players may look forward to griefing others in their quest to become the most feared explorer in Appalachia. Here’s how to become wanted in Fallout 76, and how to lose the bounty that’s placed on you.

The world of Fallout 76 has its own self-regulating justice system, so before you start loading rounds into unsuspecting former Vault-dwellers, check out what you need to know with this guide on how to become wanted.

What is the Wanted Status?

In Fallout 76, if you ever become wanted, you’ll be immediately marked on every player’s map as a red dot with a WANTED! message over your player icon. This means that any player that views their map or encounters you face-to-face will know that you are a wanted target, and you will already be hostile towards them without taking any prior actions.

You will also have a number of Caps displayed by your name that increases each time you perform subsequent negative actions towards other players. Any player that kills you can claim this amount of Caps as their own without becoming marked wanted themselves, and the Caps are taken directly from your inventory.

How to Become Wanted

In Fallout 76, if you damage another player, you will do reduced damage and become marked as hostile. This lets the player know that you attacked them and if they strike you back, both player’s weapons will do full damage. Either player cannot get marked as wanted from killing the other once this has been initiated.

However, if you kill a player and they never damaged you, you will immediately become wanted. Another way to become marked this way is by stealing from other players by picking locks in their CAMP – though if they don’t lock their containers, you don’t need to worry about this. Damaging any structures built by other players will also give you the wanted penalty, so be careful around CAMPs.

Any subsequent times you perform these actions will increase your bounty, giving other players more incentive to cash in on your misdeeds.

How to Lose Your Wanted Bounty

As of right now, the only way to remove your wanted level in Fallout 76 that we’ve come across is to die. Yes, getting killed is the only sure-fire way to remove that bounty on your head that seems to be available at this time.

Logging off and logging back in or switching worlds will not remove the status from your survivor, so think carefully about your actions against other players before you do anything.

That’s all the details for how to become wanted in Fallout 76. If you are a true griefer, you’ll need to worry about the greed of other players coming back to bite you, so make sure you’re careful out there. If you want to avoid PvP gameplay altogether, you can also turn on Pacifist Mode.

Justice is swift and decisive in the wasteland, and as more details of this system come to light, we’ll make sure to keep you updated. If you need more tips and tricks for holding your own out in the West Virginian wastes, check out our Fallout 76 wiki.
