Best Way to Raise Power to Cap Fast in Destiny 2: Witch Queen

Avoid All Weekly Activities at First Until Soft Cap

What you’ll need to resist at first is the temptation to do any activities that reward you with powerful or, god forbid, pinnacle engrams. You desperately want to save those, if you can, until you reach the Soft Cap. It’s easy enough to reach the Soft Cap without having to resort to wasting your powerful engram drops.

That said, if you’re running behind, the week is about to reset, and you’re still under the Soft Cap, by all means, make sure you get all the powerful rewards to speed things up. Whatever you don’t obtain before the reset is completely wasted.

This is key: always hang onto your highest power gear in each slot. Do not dismantle them even if it’s a blue. Your drops are always based on your combined highest possible power level in your inventory, regardless of what you have equipped. This applies all the way until you hit the Pinnacle Cap.

Also a quick tip: your seasonal rewards, such as the free armor sets, can be used to fill out some areas of your equipment that are behind the rest of your gear to bring up your Soft Cap score.

Once you reach the soft cap of 1500 you’re ready to graduate to other activities.

Raising Power Past the Soft Cap

Once you reach the Soft Cap, you’ll want to (and need to) start doing activities that reward powerful engrams. There is an order to it though, don’t just do anything.

You’ll, ideally, want to do activities that reward tier 1 first, and then work your way up to tier 3 rewards to get to power caps faster. This is because the tier 3 rewards offer you bigger jumps in power that you’ll want to save until last. So in other words, start with stuff like Gambit, Crucible, and Strikes and then collect your Clan Rewards and then wrap up with the tier 3s like Nightfall.

After you’ve done all of your powerful engram activities for the week, then you’re allowed to dip into your pinnacle reward activities. Pinnacles are the only rewards that can break 1550 Hard Cap and push you into Pinnacle Cap territory which ends at 1560 (the hard, hard cap for Season of the Risen).

Pinnacle Drops Last

So again, unless your pinnacles are going to go to waste, don’t do them until you’ve done everything else. Once you’re at 1550+, the only thing that can raise your power will be those pinnacle drops.

That and your Artifact power boosts, of course. For activities where your Artifact power cap boosts count (which are most things), you can gain more of them by simply getting XP. Try to make sure you take as many bounties as you can before going out, get them completed, and then turn them in, ideally with the Shared Wisdom perk active while playing with another player with Shared Wisdom perks active.

Raising Power Cap Fast in Destiny 2: The Witch Queen

  1. Hit Soft Cap first, avoid claiming any powerful or pinnacle drops.

  2. After hitting 1500, start doing powerful reward activities, starting with the lowest tiers.

    Tier 1 engrams first ideally.

  3. Do pinnacle activities after hitting 1550 or once you’ve done everything else.

That’s all you need to know for the best way to raise your power cap fast in The Witch Queen and Season of the Risen. For more tips, tricks, and FAQs answered, check out our helpful guide wiki for Year 5 of Destiny 2.
