If you’re just playing Back 4 Blood on Recruit difficulty, which is basically the game’s equivalent of easy mode, you should have no problem blasting through the campaign with random players online. But bump it up to the next level, and you might find yourself taking damage left and right, dealing with an impossible number of Ridden at every turn.
Turtle Rock Studios agrees that the difficulty level in Back 4 Blood is way too overtuned right now, and they plan on addressing that issue in coming patches.
For starters, the number of special Ridden will be lowered, and the amount of Trauma damage received will be lowered as well. These are the two main factors that have led to the game feeling way too punishing, tipping the game over to “not fun anymore” territory.
The devs went on to address the issue of the game’s meta being revolved around stacking speed and stamina cards, which have led to players speedrunning levels because that’s simply the most efficient way to play the game. While it’s not clear how Turtle Rock plans on addressing this issue in particular, it’s at least nice to know that it’s on their radar.
Back 4 Blood is now available on PC and consoles.
