Mass Effect How to Respec

Mass Effect: How to Respec & Change Talent Points

For all of their action and cover shooting-based gameplay, the original Mass Effect trilogy titles are still RPGs through and through. You’ll constantly be earning talent points through level-ups, and you’ll need to decide how to allocate them to improve your character further. Should you make a mistake though, you’ll be left wondering how to respec and change your talent points in Mass Effect, as the games aren’t always clear on the subject.

Fortunately for you, we’ve compiled all the answers you’re looking for in this guide. Read on to find out whether or not you can respec in each game, how it’s done, and more.

How to Respec and Change Talent Points in Mass Effect

To start, it’s worth mentioning that you can only respec your talent points in Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3.

The option isn’t available in the first game, and you won’t be able to reassign any points you’ve already allocated. It’s a bit of a bummer, but given the fact that you can earn a total of 181 talent points before the level cap, it shouldn’t be too hard to work around.

Fortunately, this isn’t an issue in the other two games. After reaching a certain point in both titles, you’ll gain access to the ability to respec at the cost of either resources or credits.

Mass Effect 2 & Mass Effect 3

In Mass Effect 2, you can respec via the Research Project terminal in the Normandy’s Tech Lab. It’ll cost you 2,500 units of Element Zero for each use, and can be used as often as you like. In Mass Effect 3, meanwhile, you can respec at the Normandy’s Med Bay for 5,000 credits per use. Again, there won’t be a limit to how often you can do this so long as you have the credits.

That’s all there is to it, really. It’s a handy tool that you should definitely use if you’re not loving your character’s build.

Hopefully this cleared up how to respec and change talent points in Mass Effect. For more on the original trilogy, check out our Mass Effect Legendary Edition guide wiki. It’ll help you get the most out of every title, and maximize your enjoyment of the series.
