Downloading the Cold War Zombies Trial on Xbox and PlayStation

The process for both of the console platforms is largely the same. First, navigate to the Xbox Storefront or PlayStation Store.

Now you’ll want to head to the ‘Search’ option and then type in ‘Cold War Zombies.’ This should bring up a game to download specifically called: ‘Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War – Zombies Free Access.’ This is also one of the top ‘Trending’ options on the PlayStation store right now.

Select this, and then choose either the ‘Download’ option on PlayStation, or the ‘Get’ option on Xbox.

This will then begin the download, which weighs in at around 20GB on both platforms. This may vary depending on whether you’re downloading onto one of the new consoles — the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S — or a PS4 or Xbox One, due to bigger texture files on the 4K consoles.

Then all you need to do is sit tight and wait for the download to finish. Once it’s all done you can load it up and access the full Zombies mode from Black Ops Cold War for free until Jan. 21.

How to Download the Cold War Zombies Free Trial on PC

For PC players, simply download the Battle.Net client, sign into your account and navigate to the Black Ops: Cold War option from the left-hand sidebar. Here, you’ll find a big ol’ button that says ‘Try for Free.’

What’s In the Cold War Zombies Free Access Week?

The free trial will give you access to the Die Maschine mode where you can team up with up to three friends to take on wave after wave of Zombies. You’ll be able to use Scorestreaks, Field Upgrades, the Mystery Box and Pack-a-Punch machine to get even more powerful weapons to help you mow down the undead.

Then you’ve got ‘Cranked’ which sees a timer begin once you kill a zombie in which you need to kill another. If you fail to do so, you’ll explode. The timer gets shorter with each round you successfully complete, but there is the Cranked Timer Power-Up which will temporarily freeze the timer for you and your squad.

Finally, a PlayStation exclusive ‘Onslaught’ mode will enable two players to team up as you take on the undead across Cold War’s multiplayer maps. Once you charge up the Dark Aether Orb, the specific section of the map you’re trapped in will change, meaning you’ll constantly have to adapt to your environment and switch up your strategy.
