This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

Scoring with consistency in the NBA is probably one of the most important aspects of any player’s game. Creating clear scoring opportunities is all well and good, but what happens if the other teams want to shut you down? If you get fouled during the action of shooting the ball, you’ll head to the foul line to shoot two free throws (or just the one if you manage to score initially). Here’s a quick guide on how to shoot free throws and score in NBA 2K21.

How to Shoot Free Throws and Score in NBA 2K21

If you get fouled during a game and you were already in the motion of shooting, you’ll get to shoot two uncontested shots at the basket from the foul line.

Being able to sink free throws consistently throughout a game is a huge advantage, not only to the team but to your own stats. If you’re ahead in a game by only a few points, nailing those last few free throw shots can be the difference between winning and losing.

Let’s start off by looking at the player stats screen, you’ll notice that there is a dedicated stat bar for free throws. While it is possible to score free throws with a lower stat, you’ll notice that it isn’t with any regularity, and even with decent timing, you’ll miss a lot more than you hit.

If you plan on embarking on the MyPlayer Career then it is essential you put at least a few points into free throws initially. It may not be as flashy as dunking or breaking ankles with a dribble move, but it will win you more games than those two put together.

When on the stat screen, use the left stick to navigate to the free throw column and move it up as much as you like (or as much as your VC will allow). It probably goes without saying but a higher free throw statistic will translate into you scoring more points from the free throw line.

Once you find yourself at the line during a game it works very similarly to taking a regular shot; you either hold the shot button down until the icon enters the orange bar then release, or you hold down the right analog stick and aim the line in the middle of the orange bar.

Either work just fine, it’s just a matter of personal preference. If you get the timing right then the ball should go into the basket. Easy as that.
