2020 just can’t get any more unpredictable, so let’s try predicting the future. We’ve assembled a list of five Future Games Show predictions that we think will not only put a smile on your face but will also get you super hyped for the possibility of new games.
Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 2 Reveal
Some may say it’s a little too early on to show anything when it comes to the second part of Final Fantasy VII Remake. But there’s no such thing as too early when it comes to FFVII Remake. Square Enix teased us plenty with the PS3 tech demo that is now over 15 years old. We even had to wait nearly five years from the official reveal to the 2020 launch.
We know that Square Enix is going to be showing something at the Future Games Show, it’s just a question of what. There have been rumblings — more likely wishes — about the possibility of Final Fantasy XVI being revealed relatively soon.
On the other hand, it would certainly make more sense to keep that FFVII train rolling. It’s huge right now and if you can keep riding off of the interest in those characters and that story, then it doesn’t hurt to prioritize the remake over a new entry.
Cyber Shadow Release Date
This is the one that I’m not completely sure about just because we don’t know the full exhibitor list for the Future Games Show. Still, Yacht Club is a well-known indie that any show would welcome with open arms. It wouldn’t be too outlandish of a surprise appearance.
I’m gonna go out on another limb and say we’re going to see the Cyber Shadow release date. We know Shovel Knight Dig and Pocket Dungeon are on the agenda for Yacht Club, but both are likely coming in 2021 or later. On the other hand, we know Cyber Shadow is slated for Fall 2020.
Of course, that could easily change at any time and it could fall into 2021. Still, Yacht Club is one of the biggest indies out there and its next title doesn’t have a release date yet. It’ll be great to finally find out when this fantastic-looking action platformer will launch.
Overcooked 3 Reveal
We can confirm that Team 17 will be featured in this event and that can likely mean one of two things. We’re either getting another Worms game or it’s time to strap on your apron for another entry in the popular cooperative cooking game, Overcooked.
At first, I was leaning towards Worms just because it felt too early to announce Overcooked 3. However, if you look back at when the first title came out (2016) and then when the second game was announced (2018), then you’ll see we’re sitting near the end of that two year period.
Now the question is, are people burned out on Overcooked? It’s hard to say for sure, but Overcooked 2 was incredibly well-received. It’s entirely likely that Team 17 will keep going back to that well as long as people keep buying what it’s selling.
New Saints Row Title from Volition
We already found out back in August 2019 that Volition is hard at work on the next Saints Row title. And if Deep Silver has something to reveal at the Future Games Show, then we can rest assured it won’t be Dead Island 2. That’s just an educated guess.
We don’t know for sure what the next title in the Saints Row franchise will be called. Yet, history tells us that it will be something simple like Saints Row 5. A parody of the underwhelming PS5 logo reveal would be the perfect on-brand way for Deep Silver to show off this new game.
In a perfect world, this reveal would be Dead Island 2. But I’m not naive enough to believe that we’re gonna that game any time soon. And it seems like Deep Silver has been pushing the Saints Row brand recently with multiple ports and remasters. All the signs are likely pointing towards Saints Row 5.
Hotline Miami 3 Reveal
Ever since watching that The Last of Us Part 2 State of play I’ve had Hotline Miami on the brain. I’m seeing it everywhere. Maybe it’s a personal problem, but that doesn’t change the fact that Devolver Digital will be at the Future Game Show to show off Hotline Miami 3.
It probably won’t look too different compared to the first two, but I would welcome it with open arms after this five-year hiatus. It’s hard to pin down for sure what Devolver will be showing at this event since it has its hands on so many projects. The return of Hotline Miami just makes sense at this point.
Better yet, this could easily be a title that Devolver shadow drops on consoles and PC immediately following the end of the presentation. Either way, it wouldn’t be at all shocking to see the third entry in the Hotline Miami franchise show up at the Future Games Show.
You can check out the Future Games Show this Saturday, June 13 at 5:30 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time on Twitch, YouTube, Facebook, and Gamesradar+.
