Xbox Series X’s Back Possibly Revealed by AMD (UPDATE: Not Really)

Update: Microsoft provided a statement to Twinfinite mentioning that the image showcased was not accurate.

“The Xbox Series X imagery used during the AMD CES press conference was not sourced from Microsoft and does not accurately represent the design or features of the upcoming console. They were taken from TurboSquid.com.”

No information was provided on whether the number and nature of the ports showcased were accurate, but we should probably assume they aren’t. We’ll have to wait for an official reveal.

During today’s AMD press conference from CES 2020 in Las Vegas, the manufacturer showcased a 3D model of the upcoming console Xbox Series X by Microsoft.

The interesting detail is that the model showcased the back side of the Xbox Series X, which wasn’t displayed in previous reveals.

The console looks as monolithic from the back as it does from the front, but of course we get to take a look at the ports, which appear to include a two-pin power cable, two HDMI ports, one ethernet port, a S/PDIF optical audio cable, and two ports that look like USB type-C.

Do keep in mind that the presentation of the render was not accompanied by an audio explanation, so this could simply be a mockup that might differ from the final design of the console. As such, it should be taken with the customary grain of salt until Microsoft comes out with an official reveal. 

During the rest of the conference, mentions of the console were sparse, with a further confirmation that it’ll use RDNA architecture and that AMD expects to hold onto the leadership in the console market with this year’s release of Xbox Series X and PS5.

The Xbox Series X was officially revealed last month at The Game Awards, and will launch in the Holiday season this year.
