Microsoft’s Heartwarming “Meet Spencer Allen” Shows the Importance of Accessibility

This article is over 5 years old and may contain outdated information

Microsoft’s Adaptive Xbox controller has been a huge boon for the differently-abled gaming community, and a new video called “Meet Spencer Allen” is a reminder of just what a positive impact it’s been able to make for some individuals.

As we see in the video clip, Spencer was able to use the Adaptive controller as a foundation for building his own customized gaming set-up, tailored specifically to his needs.

Using 3D printing to forge the necessary pieces, Spencer designed a gaming tray that’s allowed him and his friends to once again play fast-paced shooters like Halo.

Clearly, the man is an extremely talented individual — the gaming tray looks superb and he went through 15 iterations before settling on the one you see in this video — but it’s a true showcase of just what an excellent device the Adaptive controller is.

You can check out the video below.

The Xbox Adaptive Controller launched back in September 2018. It costs around $70 and can be configured in dozens of different arrangements according to player needs. You can find out much more information here.
