Today Blizzard Entertainment hosted the opening keynote of its annual BlizzCon celebration, and they finally announced Diablo IV.Â
The game was announced officially with a spectacular cinematic trailer, which you can see below, alongside the first gameplay.
Blizzard provided a quick description of what we can expect, and it appears that the game will be set a long time after the events portrayed in Diablo III.Â
“Diablo IV takes place many years after the events of Diablo III, after millions have been slaughtered by the actions of the High Heavens and Burning Hells alike. In the vacuum of power, a legendary name resurfaces.”
The developers on stage described the game as “Darkness, World, and Legacy.” They promised to go back to the franchise’s dark origins, including blood, gore, and occult symbols.Â
We’ll see a “truly gothic, dark, and medieval version of hell.” PvP zones will also be included to let players “murder each other.”
The first three classes revealed are the barbarian, the sorceress, and the druid, and the platforms are PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
No release window has been announced.Â
If you’re unfamiliar with the Diablo franchise, it debuted on PC in 1996, immediately conquering the hearts of the fans.
The latest entry in the series was Diablo III, and while it received expansions and updates, on top of console releases, it has been over seven years (since May 2012) since the last time the fans received a brand new Diablo games.
