On June 12, one fan by the name of Cam G. started a GoFundMe campaign to purchase a billboard within walking distance of Hello Games’ Guildford office.

The Billboard would read “Thank You Hello Games” and would be on behalf of the r/NoMansSkyTheGame subreddit as well as any other No Man’s Sky fans interested in being involved.

A portion of the funds would also be used to purchase the dev team lunch and a case of beer to further show the community’s appreciation.

“Hello Games has put in a heroic effort to get NMS to where it is today,” Cam wrote. “As a community on r/NoMansSkyTheGame  we’d like to express our thanks.”

The campaign quickly exceeded all expectations however, raising its intended $1,750 goal in less than a day. As of this article’s writing, the campaign sits at $3,264 and counting.

In response, Cam has sworn to donate all extra proceeds from the campaign toward purchasing games for disadvantaged and sick children, detailing where and how they’re donated through reddit.com.r/thegiftofgaming.

“I thought if we have already achieved this in half of a day imagine what we could do to help kids who really need the joy, escape, and most importantly the beautiful shared experiences that you get in playing and simply talking to others who will listen,” Cam wrote.

In response to the gesture and ensuing generosity, Hello Games and its founder Sean Murray have responded with shock and love toward the fans’ gesture via Twitter.

The billboard is set to go up the week of Aug. 12, after which it will remain up for two weeks. Meanwhile, the GoFundMe campaign is set to continue until July 14.
