Today, during Gearbox Software’s PAX East stage show, Gearbox Publishing Head Steve Gibson had a small tease in store for Homeworld fans.

While Gibson did not provide any specific announcement, he teased that the publisher is “building a future for the franchise” adding that they’re “really excited” to share that with the fans in the future.

Gibson also mentioned that it’s an “honor” for Gearbox Publishing to get its hands on the franchise and bring it back to people.

If you’re unfamiliar with the Homeworld series, it’s an old and beloved space real-time-strategy franchise debuted in 1999 developed by Relic Entertainment and published by Sierra Studios.

Following games were Homeworld: Cataclysm in 2000, Homeworld 2 in 2003, and Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak in 2016 after Gearbox picked up the franchise from THQ’s corpse in 2013.

We also got a Homeworld Remastered Collection including the first game and its sequel in 2015, and that’s pretty much where we are now.

I don’t know about you but as a big fan of the old games, I’m really excited to see the franchise come back, even if I hope that Gearbox will stick to space this time around. That’s most definitely where Homeworld belongs.
