Dragon’s Dogma is like a snowball rolling down a hill: it was slow to start, but the longer it rolls, the bigger, faster, and more popular it gets.

Nintendo just announced Dragon’s Dogma is coming to the Nintendo Switch. Well, technically the updated version, Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen, but why would you ever want to play an incomplete version of a game?

Dragon’s Dogma started life on the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360, where it received favorable reviews and sales thanks to its Monster Hunter-esque combat and unique spin on multiplayer. Capcom later went the Street Fighter route and instead of releasing DLC, developed an updated version that fixed various technical problems and added a challenging new dungeon. Thankfully, Capcom stopped with the one new version, and the rest is cult classic history.

Every console to date has received a port of Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen. This includes PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC via Steam, and now the Nintendo Switch. The free-to-play sequel, Dragon’s Dogma Online, however, has yet to release on the Xbox One, let alone outside of Japan.

Regrettably, the Switch version of Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen appears to be a straight-up port with no new features aside from the Switch’s portability. No Master Sword or Hylian Shield weapons like the Switch version of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. No Ganondorf armor from the Switch port of Diablo III: Eternal Collection. All players will get in the Switch version of Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen is the gameplay we fell in love with back in 2013.

While Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen will be available on April 23rd, we don’t know if it will receive a physical version or if it will be a digital-only game. Given the Switch’s limited memory, the game’s size could be problematic for players who don’t already own a microSD card for the console. We will keep our eyes peeled for more Dragon’s Dogma news.
