Doom Gets Nintendo Switch Update for 25th Anniversary

In commemoration of its 25th birthday, Doom has received a new update for the Nintendo Switch. The developer that worked on the port of the 2016 shooter, Panic Button, Tweeted today that the update has gone live and will include a few new features.

The first is an improvement to the performance, giving more stability and an overall better experience for the player. Doom runs at 30 frames per second on the Nintendo Switch, a noticeable difference from its counterparts on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, which all run at 60 frames per second.

Still, Doom runs completely fine on Nintendo Switch, even on less powerful hardware.

Next, is the ability to add recent players to your Friends List. Nintendo seems to be getting more lenient with online features, when compared to their old policies. This inclusion is more streamlined and is on par with other platforms.

Doom’s updates don’t stop there, as you can now capture video on Nintendo Switch. This was previously disabled due to performance issues, but developer, Panic Button has improved the overall quality and you can now perform video capture with the 1.2 update.

If you’re running Doom on version 1.1, you should be prompted to update to version 1.2, which comes in at around 350MB.

Panic Button has been a major proponent of the Switch, with ports of Rocket League, Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, and most recently, Warframe. Let’s hope Panic Button continues to support the system for years to come.
