Nintendo Lifts Strict Streaming Policies Ahead of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Release

This article is over 6 years old and may contain outdated information

Nintendo has just shared some new guidelines that make it much easier for YouTubers to get paid. There’s been a long-standing history with the company and their strict restrictions over streaming, but now it seems like they’re finally giving players a bit of leeway.

Firstly, fans can now monetize their videos without signing up for the Nintendo partnership program. They also encourage fans to simply upload more than just game clips, urging them to add “creative input and commentary.” However, you can still upload screenshots and gameplay videos through the Switch’s Share Button without any additional input or commentary.

At the end of the day, however, Nintendo still has the right to take down any clips or images they deem inappropriate or isn’t in line with their new content guidelines. Still, these new methods are definitely going to help content creators share their work without having to worry too much about Nintendo taking action.

It isn’t all too surprising that the company is lifting up their strict policies as Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is slated to launch next week. The game is slated to be one of their biggest heavy hitters of 2018, so expect the community to post plenty of videos about the game on YouTube in the coming days.
