Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age is a massive 100-hour JRPG, with countless sidequests, secrets, and pieces of equipment. Dragon Quest XI is good about constantly giving you new items and equipment to play around with, and there’s a big emphasis on crafting your own weapons using the Fun-Sized Forge in camp. Of course, as you get near the end of the game you’ll need to get your hands on the best weapons in Dragon Quest XI, especially if you want to take on Calasmos the true final boss.

The best weapons in Dragon Quest XI clearly have stats outstanding from the rest. Getting the best weapons in the game can be no easy task, however, so we’ll try and give you a few tips for what to focus on.

Before we do that, though, it should be noted that many of the best weapons in Dragon Quest XI will require you to evolve a current weapon you have at the forge. To do this you’ll need to get your hands on certain recipe books so you can craft the upgraded weapons. Here are the books you’ll need to have.

  • A Hero’s Book of Basic Weapons – Found in a chest in the Tower of Lost Time. Use the moving platforms to get to it.
  • A Hero’s Book of Better Weapons – Found in a chest in the Eerie Eyrie section of the Disciple’s Trial. Near the wall of light in the south.
  • A Hero’s Book of Brilliant Weapons – You’ll need to make your way to Drustan five times in the Disciple’s Trial. Beat the bosses/trial five times, and make all five wishes to get the book.

After gaining these three books you’ll have access to all the crafting recipes you’ll need. Now you’ll just need to get the material for the best weapons in Dragon Quest XI.

Swords – Best Weapons in Dragon Quest XI

(Hero Exclusive) Supreme Sword of Light

There’s basically an entire subplot at the end of the game to get this weapon, the best sword in the game. First off you’ll need to make the wish “I want a super powerful weapon,” when completing Drustan’s trials to get the recipe.

Go to Hotto and complete the subquest with the leader of the town to get the Crucible Key. Head to Gallopolis and get first place in the Platinum Cup at the horse races to get the Forging Hammer. Finally, head to the bottom floor of Battleground to get additional pieces of Orichalcum.

Additionally, you’ll need to talk to the man outside of the item shop in Hotto with the pink exclamation mark. Give him a piece of Orichalcum and wait a while. After some time has passed you’ll be able to buy the Sword of Kings at the item shop for 35,000 gold, another item needed to craft the Supreme Sword of Light.

Now the only thing you need is Crimsonite, Uber Agate of Evolution, and Spectralite. Crimsonite can be gained from the Black Cup horse race (also unlocked through one of Drustan’s wishes), or by trading Serpent Souls to Krystalinda.

You should have quite a few Uber Agates by the endgame from opening chests. Spectralite is easy to get as you can purchase the item from the item store in Drustan’s Labyrinth. Put it all together at the forge and you’ll have the best weapon in the game.
