Gwent’s Single-Player Campaign, Thronebreaker, Has Evolved Into a 30-Hour Standalone RPG

This article is over 7 years old and may contain outdated information

During CD Projekt Red’s recent financial briefing, it was announced that the single-player story campaign for Gwent: The Witcher’s Card Game, has evolved into its own standalone RPG. The mode previously known only as Thronebreaker was supposed to arrive by the end of 2017, and focus on Merven, a queen who embarks on a dangerous journey of destruction and revenge. Now called Thronbreaker: The Witcher Tales, it’ll be a roughly 30-hour standalone game that features players engaging in Gwent battles as they set off on a brand new adventure in The Witcher universe.

Seeing as this is a standalone experiencer, Thronebreaker won’t require players to own the Gwent client in order to play it. At this point, it’s unknown if the story or initial concepts for Thronebreaker will change or remain the same, and there currently isn’t a release date for the game. During their financial report, however, CD Projekt did mention that Thronebreaker is planned to launch alongside their previously announced major overhaul for Gwent, called Homecoming, which is arriving sometime in Q4.

Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales will arrive on the same platforms as Gwent, meaning PC, PS4, and Xbox One.

Are you excited to see the campaign turn into something larger? Are you happy to be getting more Witcher story content, are would you rather CD Projekt move onto something else? Leave a comment down below and let us know.
