New Gameplay Trailer for Kursk, a Chilling “Documentary-Adventure” Game

Kursk, a narrative adventure game about the tragic Russian submarine disaster 18 years ago has a new trailer and release date. Polish developer Jujubee announced the game would be available Oct. 11 across PS4, Xbox One, and PC earlier this year, and they’ve now released the first gameplay trailer at Gamescom 2018.

Touted as the first of its type, the “documentary-adventure” game aims to put players in the shoes of the unfortunate Russian sailors aboard the Oscar-class nuclear submarine, Kursk, during the incident that left all its crew dead.

For those who don’t remember, Kursk was a hugely expensive, technological sophisticated nuclear submarine that mysteriously sunk back in the year 2000 after a massive explosion tore a hole in its hull. Not all of the crew were killed instantly, however, and after locating the wrecked submarine, President Putin begrudgingly accepted foreign help to try and rescue the remaining survivors. The UK and Norway joined the effort, but it was ultimately too late for the doomed crew who all perished. The Russian government was tight-lipped on the nature of the incident at the time, spawning dozens of different theories and several investigative books and documentaries.

The game’s official website describes Kursk:

“KURSK is an adventure and survival game coming to PC, Mac, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The game will look at the tragedy of the submarine ship from a new angle and will combine first-person action with a heavy focus on a carefully crafted story and an engrossing gameplay.

KURSK will be a game intended for mature audiences looking for a unique and cinematic experience. In the case of PC and Mac, the game will fully support 4K resolutions. The original score is being composed by award-winning composer Mikolai Stroinski.”
