Octopath Traveler has taken the Nintendo Switch by storm ever since it launched earlier this week. While the game has launched alongside other heavy-hitting titles, Square Enix’s role-playing game has climbed to the number 1 spot across various Nintendo Switch eShops. According to GoNintendo, a quick look on the online shop shows the Octopath Traveler has managed to beat games such as Minecraft and Captain Toad: Treasure Track in Japan, the United States, and even Australia.
Interestingly enough, it seems like Square Enix is also surprised by the game’s growing popularity. The company seems to be having issues meeting demands for physical copies of the game, with Octopath Traveler out of stock at retail locations in both Japan and the U.S. Even mega-retailer Amazon is facing similar stock issues, with fans having to wait around 1-2 months before they can secure their own copies. In fact, they have even apologized for the lack of physical copies, suggesting that fans grab a digital copy while the Octopath Traveler is out of stock.
Octopath Traveler takes more of a classical approach for with its 2.5HD sprites and turn-based combat. The story follows eight individuals, each with their own personal agendas as they travel through the world. Check out our review of the game for more details.
