Can You Change Difficulty in Octopath Traveler
Octopath Traveler is the latest JRPG from the talented team at Square Enix, and it’s a Nintendo Switch exclusive to boot. The title emulates the classic 16-bit inspirations of the genre, with a gorgeous art style that combines nostalgic graphics with modern high-definition visual effects. Octopath Traveler’s story weaves a tale of eight different characters within the same world, each one starting in a different area. You can, of course, build a party of any of these main characters eventually.
Octopath Traveler sports a traditional turn-based battle system, with a few twists similar to the Bravely Default series. Characters can gain Boost Points at the end of every turn, stockpiling up to five that they can use to then boost an action like attacking multiple times, upping their defense, or increasing the potency of an ability. Of course, while you’re playing through the game you might wonder if there’s a way to alter the difficulty level, especially for those tricky boss fights.
Unfortunately, there aren’t multiple difficulty levels in Octopath Traveler, so you’ll mostly need to stick to raising your party members levels. Of course, it is possible that Square Enix could add some kind of difficulty levels in a future update, but we’ll just have to wait and see. There is at least one thing you can do to make the game a little easier, if you’re having trouble with the number of random battles. The Scholar class gets a support skill called Evasive Maneuvers, which lowers the random encounter rate. In order to learn Evasive Maneuvers, however, you’ll need to spend Job Points and learn at least one other skill. To equip it go to the menu, then Skills, and select Equip Support Skills.
