The game was announced via a new reveal trailer. The trailer begins with a group of friends sat around a table with joycons, before cutting to the TV to reveal the new game. It appears that not only will this game be playable in multiplayer on the TV, but also by wirelessly linking multiple Nintendo Switch systems together. The trailer even shows unique ways that you can play by placing the Switch systems side-by-side.

The last two main games in the series, Mario Party 9 and 10, forced you and your opponents to all ride around in the same cart during the board sections. However, it seems that Super Mario Party will be reverting back to traditional gameplay where everyone moves around independently. The game will include boards as well as a multitude of mini-games, and supports up to four players.

The following playable characters are shown in the trailer: Mario, Luigi, Daisy, Waluigi, Rosalina, Yoshi, Peach, Bowser, Donkey Kong, Koopa Troopa, Wario, Shy Guy, Dry Bones, Bowser Jr., and newcomers, Goomba and Pom Pom.

Super Mario Party will be releasing for the Nintendo Switch on Oct. 5, 2018.
