This morning, the French website JeuxVideoLive had a video up of a keychain. The packaging of the keychain said Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and so we started hearing rumors that this is the next game in the Assassin’s Creed series.

Hours later, Ubisoft confirmed it by posting a teaser of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey on their Assassin’s Creed Twitter page. The teaser shows a man in Spartan gear kicking someone off the cliff, but the mystery behind these characters may unravel in this year’s E3. So far, it is clear that the game will take place in Greece and revolve around a certain Ancient Greek era.

Kotaku’s Jason Schreier also reported that Odyssey will bring “dialogue options to the series for the first time” and that players can choose to be either a male or female protagonist. This will be a big step for Assassin’s Creed since playable female protagonists were quite absent from the series. Two sources told Schreier that Odyssey will launch during Ubisoft’s 2019 fiscal year. However, Ubisoft has not yet confirmed this.
