Hidetaka Suehiro, director of Deadly Premonition and D4: Dark Dreams Don’t Die, announced on Twitter today that a Kickstarter campaign will be launched for his latest game The Good Life on March 26.

Also known as Swery65, the writer and director set up his own studio, White Owls Inc., in 2017 and launched a Fig campaign for the game last September. The Good Life was billed as a “Debt Repayment Life Simulation RPG” with a quirky cast of characters that turn into cats and dogs at night.

The Good Life did not reach its crowdfunding goal of $1.5 million, only raising $682,864. Swery cited poor reception for the title was due to the game’s concept leaked before official reveal, a confusing trailer, and lack of public relations to spread word of the campaign. The project was put on hold and the studio started planning for a relaunch on Kickstarter.

“At that point, we decided to turn our temporary setback into a chance to make The Good Life better,” Swery wrote today. “We exhaustively analyzed and re-examined our campaign and initial plan, and made many critical adjustments.”

Swery gave six nondescript changes for the new crowdfunding campaign:

  • Build Powerful Partnerships
  • Change Initial Goal Amount
  • Change Reward Content
  • Enhance the Game Design
  • Enhance the Graphical Style
  • Provide Gameplay Footage

The Good Life’s Kickstarter campaign has been set for March 26 with more details coming soon.
