Rockstar is one of the biggest names in the gaming industry and has brought us some of the best games ever made such as Red Dead Redemption, Bully, and of course, the Grand Theft Auto series. Grand Theft Auto V was released back in 2013 and was critically acclaimed. The game has received plenty of fresh content for its online multiplayer, but none for the single-player, something that fans have wanted for years.
In a recent interview with Game Informer, Rockstar’s director of design, Imran Sarwar, explained why no single-player DLC was ever released. Firstly, he explained that the studio felt the main story was a “very, very complete” package and Rockstar didn’t feel any extra story content was necessary.
Secondly, Rockstar also didn’t feel it had the resources to create extra DLC that would’ve lived up to the expectations of fans. Rockstar’s resources were already being consumed by porting the game to the PC, PS4, and Xbox One, supporting the online modes, and working on Red Dead Redemption 2. There apparently wasn’t enough left to create worthwhile DLC for GTA V’s single-player.
However, Sarwar went on to state that Rockstar still values single-player games and that single-player expansions are still something the studio is interested in.
“We would love to do more single-player add-ons for games in the future,” Sarwar said. “As a company we love single-player more than anything, and believe in it absolutely – for storytelling and a sense of immersion in a world, multiplayer games don’t rival single-player games.”
No doubt fans will feel disappointed that GTA V never got any extra content for the campaign, especially given that Rockstar did promise that “substantial” extra content would come to the single-player, but it seems the studio went off the idea. Here’s hoping we get plenty of story DLC for Red Dead Redemption 2.
