Dark Horse Is Publishing an Official English Translation of Final Fantasy’s Ultimania Book Series

For the lore buffs.

Final Fantasy Ultimania is a series of heavy tomes detailing the lore and development of Square’s most esteemed JRPG franchise. They’re pretty much must-have items for any hardcore fan of the games. There’s just one problem: they’re in Japanese, so good luck trying to read them if you don’t speak the language.

However, Dark Horse has just announced that they’re working on an official English translation of the Ultimania books, and the first volume will be published on June 5, 2018. This first volume will detail the first six games of the Final Fantasy series, and there will be two more volumes coming at a later date to cover the rest of the games.

‘This holy grail of Final Fantasy fandom is packed full of original concept art, process pieces, and notes from the original artists and designers chronicling the creation of these timeless games. Containing a total of over three hundred pages collected in a high-quality hard-cover binding, Final Fantasy Ultimania Archive Volume 1 remains faithful to its original Japanese source material while simultaneously offering unparalleled accessibility for Western readers. No Final Fantasy collection is complete without this beautiful tome of art, lore, and history.’

The first volume is already available for pre-order on Amazon.
