Pokemon Sun and Moon: How to Get Heart Scales

This article is over 9 years old and may contain outdated information

Heart Scales in Pokemon Sun and Moon are just as important as they have been in previous generations. On the surface, they are just the random item that Luvdisc carries around about 50% of the time. However, if you want to relearn a move, or in the case of Sun and Moon, even learn moves early, Heart Scales are an incredibly important item to have.

There are a couple of ways to get a Heart Scale in Pokemon Sun and Moon. First, they can be randomly found on the ground via Stoutland Search, but there’s only a finite amount of those. You’ll need a consistent source of them if you want get more than a few.

A slightly better source is the Festival Plaza’s Haunted House attraction. Occasionally the Pokemon you send out will return with a Heart Scale. Sweet.

Even better than those options though is fishing. Not only can you occasionally reel up Heart Scales themselves instead of fish Pokemon, you can also go fishing for Luvdisc which often carry the all important move relearner currency. Luvdiscs can be fished up on either Route 9, or in the Melemele Sea (east and west).

You can either catch the Luvdisc straight up and hope they have a Heart Scale, or you can opt for using the Dark move, Thief, which steals items from whatever you’re attacking and save some Pokeballs and time.
