You should be happy to know that someone’s looking out for you, and the next step in the Star Wars saga is already practically underway. Episode VIII’s script is completed and it will begin filming sometime in January, 2016.

In a new interview with Wired, director of The Force Awakens J.J. Abrams talked about how he’s been working with Episode VIII director Rian Johnson in an effort to make the series’ continuation as “seamless as possible.” The information comes from the interview with Wired and courtesy of Disneyexaminer.

Apparently Johnson was one of the few people to see footage from The Force Awakens early, in order for him to get inspiration and write his films story from right where Abrams left off.

At this point Abrams influence over the story of the series will be limited, although he will still have some amount of say over the story even with Johnson’s guiding hand. Abrams continues to say that Johnson requested a few “things” to tell the story he wanted to, but ultimately Abrams says that it will tell a great follow-up tale to his work.

“The story he told took what we were doing and went in the direction he felt was the best but that is very much in line with what we were thinking as well.”

At this point it’s doubtful we’ll see any indication of what the story of Star Wars Episode VIII is. Disney kept details about The Force Awakens very closely guarded under lock and key until the movie itself was released. With how popular Episode VII is though, it has to inspire confidence among fans that Abrams is so positive on what’s coming next.

Star Wars Episode VIII is set for a release date of May 26, 2017 although we’ll be seeing another Star Wars movie before then with Rogue One on December 16, 2016. What do you think of the news about Episode VIII? Have you seen The Force Awakens yet, what did you think about it? Of course avoid leaving spoilers for anyone that hasn’t seen the film yet.
