Mojang has just announced that Minecraft is ready to come to the Nintendo Wii U, releasing on the eStore on December 17th.
On Wii U, the game will cost $29.99 in North America, with the equivalent prices in other regions not entirely known yet. This is the first time that Minecraft will release on a Nintendo platform, with it already being available on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and countless other devices.
Included in this edition is six DLC packs that proved to be some of the most popular with fans on other consoles. There is no mention of what the packs are, although there did say that there will be festive pack in keeping with the time of year for many people. There will be more packs created for the Wii U, some of which could potentially be skins for popular Nintendo characters.
While the packs will cost money, they are quick to mention that these are optional, and like on other platforms they won’t affect the game itself, just how you look. The game itself will receive free updates to bring it closer to the main PC release, similar to how the home console releases work.
One feature that will be unique to the Nintendo Wii U is off-TV play. This will be great for families, as you will be able to use the Wii U game pad to play the game without the need to have it shown on the TV.
