Fortnite and Overwatch are popular team-based fighting games that have enough in common to potentially work well together. Fortnite is owned by Epic Games, and Overwatch is owned by Blizzard, so both companies need to be open to any kind of collaboration. Overwatch hasn’t worked with non-Blizzard franchises before and could be against the idea. Here’s everything you need to know about what Fortnite X Overwatch 2 is.
Is Fortnite Having an Overwatch Crossover?
Fortnite has proven its ability to invite franchises like Naruto and Destiny 2 to have fun events in the game and remain relevant on their own. If Blizzard is open to a crossover, then Epic Games will be ready, and it seems like Overwatch is considering the possibility.
Game Informer interviewed Overwatch Vice President Jon Spector, who says he’s “…interested in exploring” collaborations like Fortnite instead of introducing ads to generate revenue with the new free-to-play structure. This is as close to an official announcement as there is currently.
Will Overwatch Work With Other Brands?
If Overwatch wants to have crossovers with Pepsi or Monster instead of introducing ads to the game, they could unobtrusively make money. Blizzard could make a Genji skin to remind people of their favorite Monster flavor or a half-red and half-blue Wrecking Ball that looks like a giant Pepsi logo, and fans wouldn’t have to watch irritating ads in between games. These skins would be especially visible during Overwatch League streams and would bring in good money.
