These weapon skins are purely aesthetic and don’t alter your weapon stats in any way nor are they separate weapons that have different effects on the enemies.
Weapon skins are solely used to change the look of the weapon so there isn’t much of a benefit to buying them unless you like to customize your characters a little more. If you want to improve your characters for battle, looking through the Skill Tree is a better place to customize characters and improve your strategy.
The main reason to buy weapon skins is for completionists who want to get everything in the game and have every planet reach 100% completion. If you accomplish that goal, you will actually unlock a special present from the planet that is typically another weapon skin that you can use to show off your skills.
