House of the Dragon episode 5 has just launched, continuing the story of the Targaryens. However, one of the big players in the Targaryen story is House Velaryon, a house with many connections to the dragon family. One such member of House Velaryon is Laenor, the son of Corlys and Rhaenys, who herself is a Targaryen. In episode five, though, we get to know a bit more about the Velaryon prince, including whether or not Laenor Velaryon is gay in House of the Dragon.
Is Laenor Velaryon Gay in House of the Dragon?
Yes, Laenor very much is gay, or at the very least, he is bisexual/pansexual, but he favors the company of men. Episode five of House of the Dragon revolves around Rhaenyra marrying Laenor in order for Viserys to repair his relationship with the Velaryons, especially after his decision not to wed the princess in episode two. However, Rhaenyra does not want to marry Laenor, nor does he because he is secretly in a relationship with Ser Joffrey Lonmouth.
The secrets of Laenor’s heart does not seem to be all that secret amongst his family, as both his cousin and his parents know about Laenor liking men. Whether or not the family knows about Joffrey, in particular, is unknown, but given the events at the end of the episode, we may never find out.
Who is Laenor’s Boyfriend?
Laenor’s boyfriend is Ser Joffrey Lonmouth, who is also known as the Knight of Kisses. Almost nothing else is actually known about Ser Joffrey besides that he is obviously a part of House Lonmouth, a house that in the book series is sworn to the Baratheons.
The Game of Thrones franchise is notorious for not exactly having the best LGBTQ+ representation. Still, hopefully, Laenor’s storyline will break the mold, though we are not exactly starting off on the right foot. Perhaps House of the Dragon will proceed with this storyline in a fantastic and nuanced way, but only time can tell, as this is a gay romance that only lasted a single episode.
That is everything you need to know in regards to whether or not Laenor is gay in House of the Dragon. For more coverage on the Game of Thrones prequel, keep an eye on Twinfinite, with some of said coverage included down below.
