Minecraft 1.19 update aka the Wild Update introduced loads of new things and among them is the Sculk, a decorative block that was first announced during the Minecraft Live 2020 event. If you are wondering what these do and where to find Sculk Blocks in Minecraft, then we have your back.
Originally, the feature was planned to drop along with its additional variations with the Minecraft 1.18 Caves & Cliffs update. However, the developers chose against it and launched sculk blocks together with the deep dark as part of the 1.19 update. Here’s where to find Sculk Blocks in Minecraft.
Where to Find Sculk Blocks in Minecraft
Sculk Blocks are a unique type of item found exclusively in the deep dark biome or created by the sculk catalyst. The block has glowing spots that do not illuminate the surroundings. You can find the deep dark underground biome anywhere in the Y=-1 and Y=-64 range.
Sculk blocks can be mined with any tool, but hoes can get the job done the most quickly. It will always drop 1 experience if mined without Silk Touch, a tool enchantment that causes certain blocks to drop themselves instead of their usual items when mined. Since a hoe breaks sculk blocks the fastest, it’s best to use an enchanted hoe to break sculk blocks.
There are five types of sculk blocks in Minecraft and each comes with its own unique mechanics linked to them. Here’s a look at all the five types of sculk blocks:
- Sculk – A Decorative block used only for aesthetics and building
- Sculk Sensor – Catches vibration and sends out Redstone signals
- Sculks Catalyst – Generates sculk features whenever an experience dropping mob dies nearby
- Sculk Shrieker – Summons the Warden after noticing vibrations three separate times
- Sculk Vein – Only for aesthetics and decoration
