How to Save Max in The Quarry
While Max is prominently featured in the prologue, the next time we’ll see him depends on some key choices you will have to make leading up to the conclusion of The Quarry. Here’s what you will need to do as both Laura and Dylan at various points of the game.
Prologue
Laura
As Laura, once you have made it safely to the relative comfort of the camp lodge, head towards the lighted bunker doors at the bottom of the lodge. Here, choose to Take the Wrenches, and stay Confident in your decision.
Head in and progress despite the clear warning signs that things are not right. Eventually, Max will get attacked by the monster, and Laura will have to make a decision. The right one would be to Help Max.
Chapter 5
Dylan/Ryan
Once you are in the radio shack, you will be threatened by the presence of the monster. Avoid shooting at the ceiling of the radio tower, which will keep the trio of Abigail, Nick, and Kaitlyn safe. However, when reaching for the radio wires, Dylan will get attacked. To prevent infection, choose the Chainsaw as Ryan to hack his arm off.
Chapter 7
Laura
We fast forward to Laura and Max in the police station, and your job here is to not piss off Travis. Be Compliant in your dialogue, and do not aggravate him by calling for help. Once control of Laura is given, explore the station and be sure to grab the syringe on the third floor. Hide it in the loose rock beside the bed, and go to sleep.
When Travis arrives, do not attempt to steal the gun; instead, sedate him with the syringe.
Chapter 9
Ryan/Laura
Things will get messy at the Hackett’s residence, and upon discovering a chained-up monster in the attic, the floor will collapse and Ryan will have to choose between shooting Laura or the monster. Shoot the latter to break Laura and Max’s curse, and Travis will not stab Laura if she was compliant previously.
Chapter 10
Max
Now that we are back with Max and his curse is broken, he will be safe on the island. Head towards the docks, but do not choose to swim across the shores. Staying on the island will keep Max alive.
