Evil Dead the Game Fear Meter Explained: What it Does, How to Decrease

Developed by Saber Interactive, Evil Dead: The Game is finally available on PC and consoles. The game’s 4v1 multiplayer mode serves as the meat and potatoes of the experience, and tasks players with working together to try to defeat the Kandarian Demon, who has plenty of tricks up its sleeve. Here’s a breakdown of how the Fear system works in Evil Dead: The Game and how you can prepare for it.

Evil Dead the Game Fear Meter Explained

At the bottom left corner of the screen, you’ll noticed a colored bar just below your character’s HP bar. This indicates your Fear meter, and it’ll slowly increase over time when you’re in a match.

Once it passes the 75% threshold, the game will inform you that your Fear level is too high, and that you’re in danger of getting possessed. Needless to say, this is a very bad thing, and you should keep an eye on it at all times to make sure you don’t put yourself at risk.

What Causes Fear to Rise?

As mentioned before, the meter will increase very gradually, but there are a few key things that will cause it to rise even faster. We’ve listed them below:

  • Traveling alone
  • Traveling in the dark

These are the two main factors that will cause your Fear meter to increase at an alarming rate. The survivors in Evil Dead: The Game will become terrified if they’re not surrounded by allies, and exploring the maps without any reliable light source will also cause them to panic.

How to Decrease Fear

To combat this issue, here are a few things you can do to keep your Fear level at a manageable level:

  • Always travel with at least one other ally.
  • Keep an eye out for matches so that you can light a campfire if needed.
  • Look for light sources such as brightly lit lamp and torches. Well-lit houses and shops will also help.
  • Upgrade your character’s stats with Pink F to help combat Fear.
  • Use special abilities, such as Ash (The Evil Dead)’s skill, which will decrease his Fear level along with those around him.

How to Deal with Possession

No matter how good you are, you’ll inevitably run into instances where you or your teammates will be unable to manage your Fear level, leaving you vulnerable to possession by the Kandarian Demon. When this happens, you’ll lose all control of your character and you’ll need to wait for an ally to help you out.

Thankfully, getting possessed doesn’t equate to the end of the world. When a teammate gets possessed, you’ll need to hit them a couple of times to snap them out of it. You can hit them with melee attacks or even shoot them with ranged weapons. This will cause them to lose a bit of HP, but it’s a small price to pay to get your teammate back on track.
