While players can still trade with friends, the Pokemon that previously needed to be traded to evolve have some slightly different evolution requirements now. Specifically, you’ll need to get your hands on the Linking Cord in Pokemon Legends Arceus, and this guide will explain everything you need to know about getting and using it here.

What Is the Linking Cord?

The Linking Cord is an evolution item in Pokemon Legends Arceus, used to evolve Pokemon that previously needed to be traded to evolve in previous games.

It’s a reference to the old ‘Link Cable‘ used to connect Game Boy handheld consoles all those years ago.

Getting the Linking Cord in Pokemon Legends Arceus

  1. You can buy a Linking Cord from Simona at the Trading Post for 1,000 Merit Points

  2. Linking Cables can also be found in Space-Time Distortion Zones

    Look around on the floor when you’re exploring one of these mysterious zones. Even if you don’t find a Linking Cable, you’ll get a ton of rare items you can sell for extra cash, or use on your adventures.

  3. Get a Linking Cable as a Reward for Completing Quests

    Specifically, completing the ‘Getting to Know the Ghosts’ request (number 64) will reward you with a Linking Cable.

There are four Pokemon that require the Linking Cord to evolve. We’ve listed these and what Pokemon they evolve into below:

  • Kadabra -> Alakazam
  • Machoke -> Machamp
  • Graveler -> Golem
  • Haunter -> Gengar
