Pokemon Legends: Arceus Overview Trailer Gives Us a Look at Open-World, Catching Mechanics & More

Pokemon Legends: Arceus is the first major video game release of 2022, and it’s shaping up to be a pretty exciting one, considering that it’ll be quite the departure from the usual Pokemon formula that fans have become so accustomed to. Nintendo has just released a new overview trailer for the game, going over some of its core mechanics.

Aside from getting to choose between two factions at the start of the game, there’s a rather large world for players to explore as well. You’ll be able to encounter various Pokemon wandering around the world, and players can lock on to them and attempt to capture them with a Poke Ball.

Battles are also no longer turn-based in this one, and players will instead have to deal with real time combat and learn to dodge attacks from enemy Pokemon. We also get a glimpse of the various towns and NPCs players can interact with, and overall, this looks a lot more like a conventional modern open-world game in the Pokemon universe.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus is set to be released for the Nintendo Switch on Jan. 28.
