The Forbidden Taste Case

Once you grab this one off the board at the Yokohama 99 Detective Agency, you’ll need to head over to Meng Wu to meet with the client, Joe Koike. Here, he will tell you about the Phantom Ramen Stall he can’t seem to find.

In order to progress this mission, you’ll need to do it at night. Once it is nighttime, open up the Buzz Researcher app and click on the keyword for Phantom Ramen Stall. Click on the chat that says “Once I find the Phantom Ramen Stall, I’ll be a true master.” This sets up a waypoint that’ll take you over toward Gull St and Pier St.

Once here, listen to the two businessmen talking about the Phantom Stall, and how it only appears at night in alleyways. It is important to note that you’ll need to listen to this entire conversation to get the information you need. You’ll know you did it right with this and the following two conversations when Yagami has an internal comment about it.

Head around the corner to the left and listen to the two homeless guys talk and you’ll hear that a cat guided one of them to the Phantom Ramen Stall. Again, Yagami will note this conversation when it finishes.

The last spot is located in Chinatown. Head over and listen to the trio of people talking about how they heard that the ramen is allegedly made with cats.

After listening to this conversation, Yagami will get in touch with Joe. Return to Meng Wu and let him know what you found. He’ll suggest that you try and make friends with a cat to have it lead you to the stand.

How to Befriend Cats in Judgment

Head out of the restaurant and slightly to the left to the spot indicated by a blue case file. If you don’t have any cat food, head over to Poppo Mart and buy cat food – the closes one is near East Jinrai Station.

After you fail to befriend the cat with food, you’ll run into Nekomiya, the guy who loved cats in the first game. He’ll tell you that you need to befriend cats you need to interact with them and do stuff like give them names. This sets up a new marker on the map just to the right that is a yellow paw.

Walk over and interact with the cats. You’ll have one of three cats come up to you. When the first cat comes up, pick whatever name you think you’ll be able to remember and associate with that cat, as it’ll be important later.

While it is possible that each of the following options works for building affection with the cats, the process I followed was: Remember Cat’s Name, Stare Affectionately, Offer Food, and then Pet. Doing so built the cat’s affection to the point where we were befriended.

It is also important to note that you can’t choose which cat you interact with, as every time you come up it’ll pick the one that comes up at random. This is why it is important to remember which cat you named what. Luckily, there is no overlap between naming them.

Lastly, all you have to do to reset interacting with the cats is go just a little bit down the street until they are out of view and then go back and interact with them.

Return to Yokohama 99

After you successfully befriended one of the cats, a new marker appears at Yokohama 99. Once you return here, a cat will show up, queuing up a cutscene that sees Yagami follow him to the Phantom Ramen Stall.

Yagami will call Joe, who shows up. After the cutscene ends, you’ll have successfully completed The Forbidden Taste side case.
