Using Synergized Attacks in FF7 Remake Episode Intermission

Yuffie may be the star of the show in Episode Intermission, but she doesn’t travel alone. Fellow ninja Sonon will accompany her during her journey, but unlike your other party members in the base game, you can’t directly control Sonon himself. He’ll act on his own accord and assist you where necessary.

That being said, it’s possible to have some control over him by making use of the new combat feature introduced here: synergy.

When in combat, press the L2 button to enter synergy mode between Yuffie and Sonon. When in this mode, their health bars will glow green in the bottom right corner of the screen. From this point on, Sonon will assist Yuffie whenever he can, and even execute follow-up attacks after you make a move.

To use a synergized attack, both Yuffie and Sonon need to have at least one ATB bar charged up. Press X to open the command menu and go to Abilities, and you’ll see that a bunch of Yuffie’s abilities have turned into Synergized variants.

These will allow you to perform powerful combo attacks and also enhance the effect of the original ability.

One thing to note, however, is that Sonon’s ATB gauge fills up much slower in synergy mode. The most efficient way to pull off synergized attacks is to have Sonon act independently until his ATB gauge fills up, then enter synergy mode and use an attack.

That’s all you need to know about how to use synergized attacks in FF7 Remake Episode Intermission. Be sure to check our guide wiki for more tips and information on the game.
