How To Get the Secret Ending & Find Sunface Fragments in Returnal
Before you even begin to think about the secret ending of the game, you will have to finish Act 2.
This means beating Ophion, the final boss. Drop down into the now-vacated hole, and you will find an abandoned sedan on the linear path. Keep moving, and you experience the first ending of the game. You also must have finished experiencing all of the House segments, and can no longer enter the House with a message displaying “DARK’ when you are at the front door.
Once you are awake after besting Ophion, you are ready to begin Act 3. The game itself does not change, but now you will be able to find six new objects, the Sunface Fragments.
Finding the Sunface Fragments in Returnal
In each of the six biomes, there is a Sunface fragment to be found. As the game is built around procedural generation, there is no guarantee as to where the Sunface Fragments can be found in Returnal.
However, we’ve noticed that the most likely locations have been areas where you will need to use the light spheres to manifest platforms to reach hidden locations.
Likewise, you do not need to collect all six fragments in one go. Once you have a piece, you are free to move to the next biome to start your search again.
Stay patient, and search each biome carefully until you have them all. Once all six fragments are in your possession, it is time to head to the House once again. It will have become accessible, and when you head inside, a new sequence will shed more light on Selene’s story and grant you the Car Key item.
How to Get the Secret Ending in Returnal
Now, you will need to make your way to Ophion once more. Beat the boss again, and head toward the sedan. Use the Car Key on the door, and you will be treated to the real, secret ending of Returnal.
