The Binding of Isaac Repentance is the latest expansion for The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth, adding a mix of new original content and content from the supremely popular mod pack, Antibirth. Included in the expansion are two brand new characters, one of which is named Bethany. Here is how to unlock Bethany in the Binding of Isaac: Repentance.
Unlocking Bethany in Binding of Isaac Repentance
Bethany can be unlocked by beating Mom’s Heart while playing as Lazarus, but there is one little catch. Lazarus starts off with the item Lazarus’ Rags which gives you one free respawn in the event of an untimely –or in some cases, well-planned– death. However, in order to unlock Bethany, you need to beat Mom’s Heart while playing as Lazarus without ever respawning. This includes respawning through another item like Dead Cat or Guppy’s Collar. You cannot die at any point in this run in order to unlock Bethany.
Beating Mom’s Heart is a relatively simple process for an Isaac veteran as it is only the second main boss in the game. However, if you’re new to the game or are just getting back into the swing of things now that Repentance is out, it can be a bit of a challenge.
To beat Mom’s Heart you need to make it to the floor, Womb II and to find the Boss Room, once you do you’ll have to fight Mom’s Heart. Try and kill the eyes in the ground pretty quickly as they serve as quite the distraction. Other than that, be prepared to dodge the tears flying out of Mom’s Heart and lay some damage into it.
Once you beat Mom’s Heart, you’ll get the achievement for unlocking Bethany and she’ll be available from the starting menu on your next run.
