However, with the launch of the Witch Queen DLC back in Feb. 2022, the Presage mission was retired, and the means of earning the DMT had changed. Now, to obtain a DMT, you can purchase one from Xur every weekend with an Exotic Cipher.
Xur will appear in numerous areas throughout the game from Friday-Monday with random rolled Exotics and weapons for players to purchase. However, you will need 125,000 Glimmer, 1 Ascendant Shard, 200 Legendary Shards, and 1 Exotic Cipher.
You can earn one Exotic Cipher per week by completing a quest from Xur, which will task you with various chores such as defeating enemies with certain guns. After obtaining all of the necessary materials, you can head to Xur and purchase your Dead Man’s Tale.

Dead Man’s Tale is one of the very few Exotic weapons in the game that you can have random rolls on, unlike other Exotics whom have their perks already selected for them. Thus, we need to discuss what roll you should be searching for each week when attempting to buy a DMT from Xur. The God Roll you should be looking for is Moving Target and Composite Stock.
Moving Target will increase your movement speed and accuracy when aiming down sights, while Composite Stock will naturally increase your stability and handling speed. This combo works hand in hand with one another as it will nearly max out DMT’s handling and stability, making this weapon a PVP monster from long ranges.
