Over 20 years after the original game’s release and nearly five years since the remake was first announced, Final Fantasy 7 Remake is finally here. But now the long wait is over, the big question is how much time are we actually going to have with this first “episode?” Here’s how long Final Fantasy 7 Remake takes to beat.

How Long Final Fantasy 7 Remake Takes to Beat

Of course, one of the big storylines immediately after Square Enix first dropped word that a remake of Final Fantasy 7 was in development was that it wouldn’t be made in one go. While the word episodic has never really been used in an official capacity, this is indeed a series of games.

And then the question of how long each would be was widely speculated (and fretted) over. As the game’s launch drew sooner and information on its Midgar-only story was explained, would this first game be disappointingly short, we all wondered? After all, the original Midgar story arc was only five or so hours.

The answer, as it turns out, is no. Final Fantasy 7 Remake is a meaty affair. Twinfinite’s first playthrough took 35 hours to complete its 18 chapters, in which we undertook all side quests and spent plenty of time enjoying mini-games and exploration.

A faster playthrough, ignoring side quests and activities would likely clock up just under 30 hours. But who wants to rush through Midgar without soaking up the ambiance!

If you wanted to 100% it, grinding up to do all of the most difficult combat challenges, finding every little chest etc. it would probably clock in the 40 to 50 hours+ range.

It’s also worth noting that after the game is completed you’re able to replay story chapters and either experience quests for a second time or go back and tick off the ones you didn’t bother with. It adds a nice bit of replayability to the game.

Spoiler Alert: We’re going to mention next the names of the chapters in the next section. While they don’t particularly spoil anything about the plot as they are pretty vague sounding, just in case we’re putting this warning here.
